Is there a combined residency program that includes obstetrics and gynecology?

For example, a combined residency including OB / GYN and, for example, you have some luck with that. Regards

Gene targeting technology and Craniofacial Development

An interesting study called "The genetics of cleft lip and palate: syndromic genes contribute to the incidence of non-syndromic clefts "- Hum Mol Genet (2004) 13 (Suppl 1): R73-R81 Here is an excerpt :…." Summary – Clefts of the lip and / or palate (CL / P) are among the most common birth defects worldwide. Most are non-syndromic CL / P is isolated from other phenotypes. When one or more additional features are involved, clefts are known as syndromes. Collectively CL / P has a big impact Clinical treatments that require surgery, dentistry, orthodontics, speech, hearing and mental or therapies throughout childhood. The etiology of CL / P is complex and thought to involve both the major and minor genetic influences with variable interactions from environmental factors. Using a combination of technology of genetic manipulation and traditional development techniques in mouse and chicken, there has been significant progress in identifying numerous genes and pathways critical gene for craniofacial development. Although this has been a particular source of frustration that mutation screening of candidates specific association studies and even genome-wide scans have failed to reveal the molecular basis of human cleavage. However, some important results have recently come from studies involving syndromic forms of the disease. These include several genes have now been shown to contribute "

Another interesting study called "cleft lip and palate detection by three-dimensional ultrasound fetal" W. MD Lee, JS Kirk, KW Shaheen, R. Romero, Hodges, CH Comstock – Ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology, Volume 16, Number 4, pages 314-320, September 1, 2000. Here's an excerpt: "Summary – Objectives
To demonstrate a standard approach to the assessment of cleft lip and palate in three dimensions (3D) ultrasound. Design – This was a retrospective study of seven fetuses facial cleft anomalies confirmed. After delivery the results were compared with a blinded review of 3D volume data of abnormal fetuses, fetuses with seven other normal who were matched for gestational age. The integrity of the upper lip was examined by 3D multiplanar imaging. Sequential axial views were used to evaluate the maxillary teeth bearing alveolar ridge contour and alignment of anterior teeth socket. Interruption suggested alveolar cleft palate. Premaxillary protrusion, either by images multiplanar or rendering the surface, said lip and cleft palate bilaterally. Results – Post-natal findings confirm the cleft lip and bilateral cleft palate (Four cases), cleft lip and unilateral cleft palate (one case), and unilateral cleft lip (two cases). Multiplanar review identified all three fetuses with cleft lip unilateral, three of the four fetuses with bilateral cleft lip, one fetus with unilateral cleft palate, and three of the four fetuses with bilateral cleft palate. Interpretation surface correctly identified all cleft lips, with the exception of a fetus, which is believed to have a cleft lip and unilateral cleft palate, despite the presence bilateral real injury. A defect of cleft palate are displayed directly on the 3D representation of the surface. No false positives occurred.

Another study Interestingly called "Classification and birth prevalence of the cracks," by Marie M. Tolarová, Jaroslav Cervenka – American Journal of Medical Genetics
Volume 75, Number 2, pages 126-137, January 13, 1998. Here's an excerpt: "Abstract –
To determine the prevalence of birth rate and "typical" of orofacial clefts (cleft lip (CL), cleft palate (CP), cleft lip and palate (CLP)) and "atypical" cracks (fissures median, transverse or oblique facial) and the conditions in which they occur, we analyzed a population sample of 4,433 verified cases of 2,509,881 births in California. The cases were classified into: isolated cleft anomalies, sequences of the primary defect, chromosomal aberrations, monogenic syndromes, the results of teratogens known associations, multiple congenital anomalies (MCA) of unknown etiology, or conjoined twins. The birth prevalence of isolated CL ± P was 0.77 per 1,000 births (CL 0.29 / 1000, CLP 0.48 / 1,000) and PP insulation, 0.31 per 1,000 births. Non-Hispanic whites had a higher prevalence of cracks isolated, slightly lower prevalences Asians and blacks the lowest. Asians had the lowest prevalence of Robin sequence and white non-Hispanic high, twice as many Hispanics. Hispanics, followed by Asians had the highest prevalence of CL ± P with MCA, non-Hispanic whites had the lowest. Asians had the lowest prevalence of CP, in whites and Hispanics nearly double. Blacks had the highest CL: CLP relationship, followed by non-Hispanic whites and Asians, Hispanics had the lowest. 61.67% are isolated anomalies of fissures. Not the total sample were 3.9% of sequences, 8.79% chromosomal aberrations, 6.02% monogenic syndromes, 0.2% known teratogens, associations of 0.79%, 18.55% of the MCA of unknown etiology and 0.1% in conjunction twins. This study supports the evaluation of each child in a "case" level, and provides a framework for genetic counseling and other studies focused the causes and prevention of these serious anomalies ".

We all owe a debt of gratitude to the researchers for their excellent work and dedication. For more information, please read the studies as a whole.

birth control pregnancy risk
Did not take over the same time to be born every day .. Is the risk higher for pregnancy?

Started taking it at 9 pm that Later it changed to 10 am, but keeps forgetting to take and could not get there until maybe 6 hours later or even the next day a lot during the whole month. Now I'm bleeding before I was able to start the pills for my next period on. What?

There are a lot of pills contraceptive out there that have to be taken at the same time each day. Also, sometimes depending on your diet and even the weather, the pills may or may not work. Is better if you use a condom in place because at least we know for sure if you are pregnant or not. With birth control, most of the time it is doubtful whether u are always asking left.

The Worst Menopause Symptoms May Start in the Brain

A new study challenges the old notion that menopause starts in the ovaries. Some of the most unpleasant symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and night sweats, have long been believed to originate in the ovaries.

But new research challenges that assumption, and instead suggests that menopausal symptoms, at least in part, may begin in the human brain.

That’s because the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland stop reacting normally to estrogen in some women, suggesting they may have developed a reduced sensitivity to estrogen, researchers at the New Jersey Medical School report in the Dec. 22/29 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

“This is an important new concept: Menopause doesn’t just originate in the ovary, but also in the brain,” said Laura Goldsmith, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and women’s health at the New Jersey Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

These findings may lead the way to further research that will ultimately help doctors predict the type of menopausal transition a woman might have, and help to design non-estrogen medications that could help reduce symptoms that women experience as they enter this phase of life, said Dr. Gerson Weiss, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology and women’s health at the New Jersey Medical School.

Menopause refers to the time when menstruation stops. A woman is not considered menopausal until she has not had a period for 12 consecutive months, according to the North American Menopausal Society. The time before menopause, which is often rife with symptoms due to hormonal fluctuations, is called perimenopause. During perimenopause, common symptoms include hot flashes, trouble sleeping, vaginal dryness, mood swings and irregular periods.

This study stemmed from research done for the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN), which was funded by the National Institutes of Health, that examined women’s’ health as they approached menopause.

The SWAN study included more than 3,300 women between the ages of 42 and 52 at the start of the study. A subset group of 840 women provided daily urine samples, which were tested for hormone levels. The samples were collected daily for one full menstrual cycle or 50 days, whichever came first.

From that group, the researchers learned that 160 did not ovulate. After further analyzing the hormone levels from the non-ovulating women, the researchers discovered that these women fell into three distinct groups.

The first group had an increase in their levels of estrogen, and then had an appropriate surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) that should have triggered ovulation, but didn’t. According to Weiss, this lack of response indicated a problem originating in the ovary.

In the second group, estrogen levels peaked, but there was no correlating surge in LH, which Weiss said should be triggered by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland responding to higher estrogen levels.

The third group had similar estrogen levels early in their cycles, but didn’t have an increase in estrogen later as the first and second groups did. LH levels didn’t surge, but were higher for most of the cycle than they were in the other groups.

According to Weiss, this is “clear evidence that the brain is not responding to hormones,” suggesting the second and third groups showed different kinds of decreased sensitivity to estrogen in the brain.

The women in the third group were also the ones most likely to report symptoms, such as hot flashes and night sweats.

Goldsmith said the researchers hope to continue studying these women. She said they’d especially like to learn how the timing of menopause correlates with their findings. For example, the researchers would like to see if the women in the third group were, perhaps, further along in the menopausal process.

“It appears that what’s going on in menopause isn’t only ovarian,” said Dr. Steven Goldstein, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at New York University School of Medicine. “We thought the pituitary responded to lower levels of estrogen, but there may be a lack of sensitivity to estrogen in the hypothalamus and pituitary.”

What’s important for women to know, said Goldsmith, is that there are “real biochemical changes occurring during menopause.” Researchers are beginning to understand how those changes start to occur, which is the first step in trying to come up with more effective treatments.

Four Beneficial Marketing Strategies For Physical Therapy Services

In order for physical therapists to market their own services better, they can print and provide helpful materials that feature physical therapy posts, find regional sports teams to sponsor, set up a seminar about physical therapy, or hold an open house at the office or at a local event.

Self-employed physical counselors might find it tougher to advance and maintain a strong client base than others who work at medical centers and wellness facilities. One way to expand your community of clients is to find a good marketing strategy for your services. Below are some pt marketing suggestions:

Print out and share important materials that feature physical therapy content articles

Instead of presenting fliers and also leaflets which just market your services, you may rather give away items which men and women will be intrigued to read or find valuable. Print out posters and also handouts that feature articles related to your field of interest. Samples feature articles which feature back and arm stretching strategies. Feature a short listing of the advantages of physical therapy along with your contact details, your company’s address as well as the different services you provide. Once you’ve your supplies ready, search for strategic places in your location or city where you can reach out to prospects. These areas could include the lobbies of offices, outdoors industrial buildings and retailers. Request authorisation if you’re able to show the paper prints on bulletin boards or if you’re able to send out one of your personnel to hand out fliers.

Look for community sports teams to sponsor

Those who involve regularly in sporting events and watch sports games may be considering your services. An excellent way to reach out to these prospects might be to present team sponsorships. Get in touch with local sports leagues in your city and inform them that you are interested in sponsoring. Depending on the agreements created, your company’s name and also services might be featured in the advertising paraphernalia of the said sporting events and even the clothing of the players. Team sponsorship both informs society members of the availability of your services and lets them know that you have an interest in the well-being of your local sportsmen.

Arrange a seminar on physical therapy

Another great strategy for advertising your expertise and services is to hold a seminar regarding physical therapy. You could contact corporations, government offices and colleges and inquire if they will be interested to have you as a presenter. Discuss a relevant and intriguing topic and then link it with the benefits they can acquire by going through physical therapy. Do not forget to hand out company cards after the event or request the checklist of participants so you can privately get in touch with them afterwards.

Hold an open house in the office or at a local affair

Open house events are a good way to draw in clients and let them notice firsthand what benefits they could obtain from your services. You can either plan the occasion at your own office or hold it together with a bigger event like a local festival or exposition. To spread awareness, distribute fliers and handouts weeks prior to the open house date. Within the actual occasion, offer discount rates to your attendees for making appointments or other special deals for future services that they could get from you.

As with marketing any product or service, take time to understand the needs of your clients so you can come up with an effective and interesting promotional strategy.

Why do I have to wait?

Hello everyone. I took two pregnancy tests on the eve of New Year and both had positive right away. I called my doctor and my first scheduled appointment. The thing is that its policy is to wait until 8-10 weeks before you see him. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm so excited! I've seen a lot of people say that their doctors immediately. Is there any special reason some doctors wait until 8-10 weeks? Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you very much you all so much!

I want to wait b / c there's not much to see so early ..
