birth control and small clot and brown color discharge early period or implantation?

Been on birth control since I had my daughter 3 1/2 years ago and my periods have always been regular. Should get my period in four days but woke up this morning and wiped there was a bit of red and a small clot but mainly all brown color. It’s gotten lighter as the day has gone by. As I said before never had this happen before so could it be implantation bleeding or early period? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Spotting before your period is normal, even if it doesn’t usually happen to you. If you’ve been taking your birth control correctly you should be fine. Implantation bleeding is very rare and not as common as the internet wants you to think. If your period doesn’t come within the next 2 weeks, take a test.
